G'Day!I am Kristen Wright, the reigning Miss World Australia, extremely honoured to represent my country at the 71st Miss World. Beyond the crown, I am an avid ocean lover and activist, working as an SSI (Scuba Schools International) speciality scuba diving Instructor. My passion for diving began at the age of 15 when I was first introduced to the sport by my dad at our wonder of the world - the Great Barrier Reef. Shortly after getting a taste for diving, I began my recreational courses followed by my dive professional courses through school years 11 and 12. I was certified as an instructor a week after I turned 18 (the legal age to become a dive professional) and was one of the youngest to be certified in my state of Victoria. I have had the privilege of diving in many beautiful places, but still, see home as one of the most captivating spots (despite the cold!). I am currently studying Biomedical Science to pursue a career in Paediatric Speech Pathology. My passion for communication relates to when I had the opportunity to begin volunteering at the age of 14, with the St Vincent De Paul Society, OZNAM Enterprise, and various retirement homes where I saw firsthand the impact that speech and effective communication made on the lives of those around me. Speech is a gift, and to be able to assist someone to communicate effectively would be joyous. After entering Miss World Australia in 2019, I soon realised how powerful this platform is. Miss World allows for a collection of women to gather and collaborate by implementing change within their community, state, nationally, and internationally. We have a collective mindset of wanting to make an impact, and I think that’s an extremely valuable environment to be part of. My Beauty with a Purpose Project, Educate Resuscitate, is a project I started in 2021 dedicated to a dear loved one of mine who was a big influence on me growing up, especially through my scuba diving certifications. Being able to create a meaningful project in her honour is incredibly humbling. Through the Beauty with a Purpose program, I’m making changes by creating awareness about the importance of first aid and CPR training, as well as water safety among schools, youth centres, and workplaces. Beauty with a Purpose is Miss World’s incentive that operates globally, raising millions every year for good causes and working with tens of thousands of unique humanitarian projects across the globe. I’m thrilled to have visited schools and workplaces where I have implement my program. Special milestones for my project have been celebrating its 3 year anniversary, writing and publishing a children's book illustrated by a year 6 cohort who participated in a workshop, and creating long lasting relationships with the First Nation communities here in Australia alongside the charity, Bush to Beach, where I added the educational component of snorkelling, water safety, first Aid and CPR to their incredible program!
