Variety Australia - Makeup Free Day
As the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a shift towards spending more time indoors, many individuals chose to give their skin a breather, opting for minimal or no makeup. While makeup serves as a powerful tool for boosting confidence and expressing creativity, it's crucial to reconnect with our natural selves beneath the surface. The Variety the Children's Charity Makeup Free Day campaign aimed to inspire people to embrace their bare faces for a meaningful cause.
Sharing makeup-free photos during the campaign served as a refreshing reminder that our inherent worth extends beyond appearances. It emphasized that our true essence is not defined by our outward appearance but by the unique qualities that lie beneath the surface.
Throughout the pandemic, members of the Variety community encountered numerous challenges, from difficulties accessing essential items to navigating the complexities of educating children with learning challenges at home. The cancellation of therapy and respite services further heightened the struggles of those already grappling with isolation due to their circumstances. In this context, the Makeup Free Day campaign provided an opportunity to shed light on these challenges and celebrate the diversity of experiences, showcasing authenticity rather than curated highlights.
On July 3, 2020, participants from across the country flooded social media feeds with Makeup Free selfies, symbolizing a celebration of diversity, natural beauty, and the distinctive qualities that make each individual truly unique. The campaign became a collective effort to acknowledge the difficulties faced by many during the pandemic while fostering a sense of unity and acceptance within the Variety community.
