2024, A Year of Transformation 💛

2024 has been a truly transformative year. It began with the incredible honor of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World, a milestone that led to so many life-changing moments. I completed an internship at the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and published my final year research on Criminalization of Marital Rape in Sri Lanka and Women’s Rights. Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and French, I’m proud to have earned a 3.8/4.00 GPA. Through my non-profit organization, Saheli, I had the opportunity to work on many impactful projects. I also became the face of a campaign by a well-known Sri Lankan brand, which led to being featured on Times Square, New York. As the first Miss World Sri Lanka from my hometown Anuradhapura, I’m proud to represent a city with such historical significance, once the heart of the ancient Sri Lankan kingdom and the birthplace of Sri Lanka’s first queen. I had the privilege of participating in a podcast about menstruation and the launch of Sri Lanka’s first period tracking app. Lastly, I was honored to become an honorary member of Rotary International, marking another significant chapter in my journey. Beauty With A Purpose-Beauty With Healthy Periods 💜

Saheli, meaning “best friend” in Sinhalese, is a nonprofit organization I founded to combat period poverty in Sri Lanka. In our country, deeply rooted cultural attitudes often make menstruation a taboo topic, leaving many women and girls without the proper resources or support to manage their periods with dignity. Saheli aims to break this silence, raise awareness, and provide access to sanitary products and education to those in need. Through our initiatives, we work to break the silence surrounding periods, ensuring that menstruation no longer stands in the way of a girl’s education, health, or personal growth. We also collaborate with local communities to offer workshops and seminars that encourage open discussions, helping to dismantle the stigma and empower women to take control of their health and well-being. As I represent Sri Lanka at Miss World, I am excited to bring Saheli’s mission to a global stage, raising awareness and seeking partnerships to expand our reach. Introducing Miss World Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Ayubowan, Hello World! I am Anudi Gunasekara, proudly representing Sri Lanka, an island nation celebrated for its beauty, diversity, resilience, and the undeniable warmth of its people. Being the first-ever representative from Anuradhapura, the historic first capital and kingdom of Sri Lanka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I am truly honored to bring my cultural heritage to the Miss World stage and share it with the world. With a degree in International Relations and French from one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned state universities, my goal is to join the foreign services and represent Sri Lanka on more prestigious global platforms like Miss World. My commitment to women’s rights has been a driving force in my life. I published a research paper on the Criminalization of Marital Rape in Sri Lanka, highlighting the urgent need for stronger legal protections for women in the country. At the age of 24, I founded Saheli, a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating period poverty in Sri Lanka. I firmly believe menstrual health is a basic human right, and no woman should be deprived of it. For the past five years, I have been on a journey in modeling, learning to embrace my individuality and celebrating who I am. But deep inside, I’ve always known I was meant for something bigger. My purpose has never been just personal growth, I was born to be a voice for my country, to carry the pride of Sri Lanka to the world, and to represent the unbreakable spirit of its people. I am both excited and honored to represent Sri Lanka at the 72nd Miss World festival. It’s a privilege to showcase my country’s rich heritage and culture on such a prestigious platform. I am eagerly looking forward to meeting my fellow sisters from all around the world, and I’m determined to be the first Sri Lankan woman to win Miss World.Jan 2, 2025
