During dry periods, water becomes the black gold. However, a lack of it can lead to drastic conditions. The Northern horn of Africa has suffered from flash floods followed by dry seasons and in both seasons, the situation becomes difficult for livelihood if not well managed.

It is in vain that the Somali Giraffe Project set up a borehole and water pans that benefits the nearby community as much as it also benefits the giraffes and wildlife.

I was honoured to visit the water pans and cherish this natural resource, a trip coordinated by Dr. Abdullahi Ali, director of the Somali Giraffe Project.
