When the Swimsuit edition at Miss World was reintroduced, many wondered what Miss Somalia would be wearing considering that I was debuting at Miss World in a hijab. Little did they know that I had packed beautiful burkini pieces for the edition.

When the Swimsuit edition at Miss World was reintroduced, many wondered what Miss Somalia would be wearing considering that I was debuting at Miss World in a hijab. Little did they know that I had packed beautiful burkini pieces for the edition. A burkini is a type of women's swimsuit, also known as Islamic swimwear. It gets its name from the Islamic garment "burqa." It has a modest appearance and covers the entire body except for the face, hands, and feet.

It was invented in 2014 by Lebanese Australian fashion designer, Aheda Zanetti who once watched her niece’s netball game when she noticed how seemingly inappropriate she looked in her skivvy, tracksuit pants, and hijab - completely unsuitable for any sport. As a result, she decided to research and design an outfit that filled the gap for many Muslim girls, and now a household fashion swimsuit accessory.

Burkinis are available in a variety of styles, designs, and prints. One can have the option of going floral or keeping it classy. To complete a look, the suites come with various accessories such as a skirt, or beautiful headgear.
