ANGOLA HERERO PEOPLE The Herero people, one of the last semi-nomadic people, the himbas are a pastoral people who live in southern Angola. Home to the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert, desert is located in the province of Namibe, southern Angola Otjize is the name given to the paste they use on their skin, giving it a beautiful reddish colour. The cream is made of cow fat and red soapstone powder, preserving the identity and beauty of their women until today. Odjize is used to repel insects and protect from the sun and has the symbolic meaning of uniting the red earth and the blood of life.
