Elise-Gayonne is a certified open water scuba diver!
In November of 2022, Mr. Belize and I were invited out to Black Bird Caye to be certified in open water scuba diving. This was truly me stepping out of my comfort zone, because I have been afraid of going under water for as long as I can remember due to my claustrophobia. However, it is proof that if you are determined, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. I’ve never been afraid to face challenges or learn something new, no matter how scary it may seem. I had to first acknowledge that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and secondly, I had to remember that if it was possible for others to achieve their goals, then it was equally as possible for me to achieve mine!
After a few days of technical learning and some practical lessons in the pool, I was able to do my first dive 20ft under water. I’ve only ever known Belize’s terrestrial beauty, but its marine beauty was something surreal and almost alien to me. It was indeed a whole new world. For anyone reading this article, I want you to use this as a reminder that not only can you accomplish your goals, but you are also deserving of all the beauty and good that comes along with doing so. Don’t be afraid of stepping out of your comfort zone. You are capable of doing far more than you think you can!

Belize is known for its access to the largest living barrier reef in the world, the largest underwater sinkhole- the great blue hole, over 450 mangrove cays and sandy islands of varying sizes that are contained within the reef and its atolls, and all its incredible marine life. Belize's Marine life also generate great income for the fishermen of the seafood industry. Because of all the wonders that are hidden along Belize's coasts, Many Visitors come from all around the world to experience for themselves the magic that Belize holds. I am grateful that I can be a tourist within my own home country and enjoy the beauty that lies under Belize shores.
