Miss World Belize- The "Biscaynian" Politician

Biscayne Village-My Home

While I spent the majority of the first 11 years of my childhood in the city, the village that I live in today has influenced many of my views in life. I live in the beautiful village of Biscayne. With a population of just above 700 people, Biscayne is known for its rich soil and agriculture lands. Our members engage in raising poultry, cattle, sheep turkey, and cultivate various types of crops such as breadfruit, Chaya, plantain, and corn. I am proud to represent Biscayne, because I represent the farmers of my community who are so important to our country's development and economy, I represent the youth of my community who hold the torch for the future of our country and I represent the women of my community who nurture and care for everyone along the way.

My contributions to Biscayne Before and After my Crown

For years, I have spent time giving back to my community. I’ve helped to paint bus sheds, planned the village children Christmas party for years, and helped with maintaining a clean roadside. I believe in giving back to and improving the place that you live in, because that is the only way our country can grow into one that is more efficient and safe.

This year as Miss World Belize, I was fortunate enough to not only host both the children’s and adults Christmas party, but also share my experience and knowledge with the Biscayne primary school. Although I did not attend this primary school, I felt the strong need to open the minds of the students and show them that the world is much bigger than they believe, and possibilities are endless. I was invited to many of their important events, making me grow quite fond of the children there. Children are precious gems of society, and their development is crucial to the success of our nation and the world.

Stepping into Politics

In the early months of 2022, I was asked to run on a slate for the village council under the independent party- Team Biscayne, because of all my contributions before. I took the opportunity to show the world that despite only being 21 at the time, my age nor my gender should determine if my voice should be heard. I took the offer and experienced something that I’ve never had the opportunity to experience before. I campaigned house to house meeting all different types of personalities from all different walks of life. I was also able to understand people more in depth. People who seemingly had everything wanted more, and people who lacked certain resources also complained. Experiencing the covid lockdown in a small village and many losing their income caused many to go without food. The family that stood out to me, however, was a family that had absolutely no access to the resources anyone else did, but they were the most content. The young lady brought her puppies to me, and we named them together. They had no voice and didn’t attempt to get one, and for them and everyone else I became that voice.

As someone who always preferred being the worker behind the scenes, this was a new experience for me. Seeing politics as it is in my country and feeling the need to make a change became the eminent driver to my notion. Society as we know it cannot improve if we the people don’t believe in the strength of our own voices. I know that now, and as Miss World Belize, I took on the challenge of creating change in a more practical way. This is why I use my platform to ensure that bellies get filled with food and minds are filled with knowledge. Because if we empower our children, Belize and the entire world have a chance of a brighter future.
