In light of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Belize Cancer Society along with Ronelli Requena and Women for Peace Justice and Equality held a fashion show to raise awareness, funds and rally support for Cancer Patients, as well as creating networking opportunities to potentially create new avenues for designers and artists. As Miss World Belize, I was invited to not only attend the event, but to also be a part of the hope they are trying to create. I walked the runway, showing off authentic Belizean Designers and their talent!

Breast Cancer Awareness has always held a special place in my heart, because my grandmother was diagnosed with breast Cancer. While she was a survivor, I saw firsthand how deeply it had impacted her self-esteem and self-love. Her self-image affected her mental health many days. For this reason, I was honored to be a part of such an incredible fundraiser. My grandmother is to date one of the strongest women I have ever known and will always be a great inspiration to me and the work that I do.

The Artists

In total, I was able to model the work of three incredible artists.

Abigail McLaughlyn is a sustainable fashion designer and artist. Her affinity for fashion and sewing bloomed throughout her formative years, leading her to enroll in sewing class. After recognizing her calling, she later created her brand @liagabi_bz. In my opinion, she brings a new creative definition to sustainable fashion, and I was more than happy to wear her beautiful pieces.

Julia McCord, better known for her brand Julie Mango Designs possess a talent for infusing her creations with striking and vibrant colors. Her Designs are well-known all-around Belize and are always stunning!

Aleister Alexander’s Passion for art ignited in his childhood years. In 2017, he founded Aleister Alexander Designs. His pieces were intricately made and gave the perfect effect of being high fashion. I was happy to have been able to wear his beautiful dress on the runway.
