Everyone has a responsibility to end domestic violence and abuse. Please watch this video to learn more 💜 #medicmillie #medicmilliemondays

Hello and welcome to Medic Millie Monday. Domestic violence and abuse affects one in four women and around one in six men, however it remains a largely hidden crime. Domestic violence and abuse can be but is not limited to physical, emotional, sexual, financial and coercive control. As active bystanders we want you to look out for signs such as physical injuries, inappropriate clothing, so that might be long sleeves or scarves worn in hot weather, someone who is withdrawn or extremely apologetic, someone without access to their own money, or someone who is very fearful or eager to police their partner. It is estimated that around half a million survivors of domestic violence and abuse seek help from medical professionals. There's a real lack of education and training for these medical professionals. IRIS is a training, referral and advocacy model that is delivered to clinicians to support their patients affected by domestic violence and abuse. A national rollout of IRIS would better outcomes for those living with domestic violence and abuse, particularly groups who face extra barriers such as BAME or disabled people. Everyone has the right to feel safe. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence and abuse, please seek help through organisations such as Calan Domestic Violence Services, Women's Aid or use the Live Fear Free helpline.
