Marking the official 30-day countdown to Miss World in Puerto Rico, Alejandra reminisces about her Top 13 placement in the Top Model Challenge

The official countdown to Miss World officially begins today! It’s hard to believe that in exactly 30 days I will be standing on the stage of the Coliseo Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. Based on what we learned on rehearsals back in December, it’s going to be an amazing show and I cannot wait for you to see it!
Am I nervous? Extremely! I’ve been waiting so long for the Miss World’s finals that I can hardly sleep. My only wish is to make you proud and I’m working hard with the Miss Venezuela Organization by going over every step of my preparation so that everything goes perfect! And don’t worry, I tried my evening dress on the other day and it still fits like a glove!
Speaking of dresses, today I wanted to share with you some memories from my participation in the Miss World’s Top Model Challenge where I was lucky enough to place in the Top 13 with that gorgeous Douglas Tapia orchid-colored dress you all liked so much and to great surprise was later auctioned off for charity and made $15,000!
This dress is huge and I can’t tell you how hard it was to iron! You see on the morning of the challenge I took it out of the suitcase and found that parts of the dress were wrinkled. But thanks to the help of my angelic chaperones, Celine and Susana, the dress came out wrinkle-free in time for runway!
I remember being super energetic that day. As a model, I’ve had great experiences in fashion shows but I felt like the two dresses I got to wear on this challenge gave me super powers. My walking partner was Miss France, April Benayoum, a very elegant and confident woman, and I remember us both looking out for each other during the challenge. For our first walk we were both dressed by the amazing Puerto Rican designer Juan Carlos Collazo. It was a great honor to wear his yellow creation.
Waiting backstage to go out was the hard part but with more than 80 women at Miss World patience is key! So we passed the time sitting down on the floor until they were ready for us.
Going out and feeling the applause of the Puerto Rican people was a dream made in Heaven. I always say that my home is Venezuela but my heart was stolen by Puerto Rico. The people there are so amazing and hearing their applause made me confirm that the best thing about la Isla del Encanto are the puertorriqueños! I felt their love when the announcers called VENEZUELA confirming that I had made it into the Top 13.
This moment was a dream and I totally agree with the judge’s choice in Miss Cote d’ Ivoire as the winner. Olivia’s catwalk is divine and she shares my thought that confidence is what makes a dress move. After the show ended, Miss France (who also made it to the Top 13) made it backstage to celebrate with our Yellow Team and sang our team’s song.
I couldn’t have been prouder of that night. For Juan Carlos and for Douglas, for all the Miss World contestants and for my participation. It was a Cinderella moment that I wanted to go on forever. So much so, that I didn’t change my dress until I reached the hotel! There was a beautiful Christmas tree set up there and I thought that such a glorious night needed a magical backdrop for one of my favorite pictures!
And to think that in one month I will get to relive it all with you!
