While clothing impacts the way women want to show themselves to the world, every one of us must make a choice that defines our style

THERE IS NO GREATER STYLE THAN ATTITUDE

MY PERSONAL VIEWS ON FASHION

Throughout my reign as Miss Venezuela World, I have had the privilege of working closely with talented designers in my country and wearing their most beautiful creations. I’m not going to lie; these clothes have always made me feel like Cinderella walking into the ball and they have always given me a boost of confidence. The last example being when I wore the gorgeous lilac dress by Douglas Tapia for the Miss World Top Model Challenge where I placed in the Top 13.

The wonderful thing about being around creative designers all the time is that I get a behind the scenes look of their design process which have given me the tools to make informed decisions about my personal style and dare to accept suggestions such as wearing yellow which is a color I had never considered. It’s easy to look at a magazine and see the model with a perfectly-fit dress, but we all must take time to really analyze not only what works on our bodies but how a particular garment makes us feel.

I’ve always thought that the most elegant women are those whose looks seem effortless. That’s style. While fashion is fast, trendy and ever-changing, style is personal, original and timeless. I think it’s because these women know their body and use clothes as a presentation card and not as an armour. For them, their style is more about showcasing their personality and sending the world a message: “I’m not here to talk about how fabulous I look, but rather how fabulous I feel”.

As a fashion model, I have understood that feeling on the runway. There have been many times where I have had to model clothes that I would never wear in real life but I realize that I’m not there to give an opinion about the dress. I’m there to showcase the garment with so much attitude and confidence that a potential buyer sitting at the fashion show, reading a magazine at home or walking through a store may think: “Hey, that would look amazing on me!” When it comes to selecting clothes for myself, I remember that runway feeling and choose timeless and comfortable pieces that can be easily combined with other garments from my closet that will make me feel like a million dollars every single moment of the day.

So rather than going for a total look from a magazine, try to combine items that make you feel confident and happy. Perhaps it’s a striped blue sweater with black tube pants and pink ballerina flats or maybe a navy blazer over a cool graphic t-shirt. Try out different options and see how they make you feel, always remembering what Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera once said: “Always choose style over fashion: wear something that makes you look beautiful”.

¡Los quiero mucho!
