While the digital world has given us powerful tools to advance as human beings, we must remember that life is meant to be experienced with our senses and not through our cell phones.

The thing about Life is that its not linear. Every day comes with a new set of emotions, triumphs and problems and I often feel that I’m in a roller coaster. One day I’m up almost touching the clouds and the next day I’m down wishing it would rain so that the day looks exactly how I feel inside.

Being young in this digital era where news fly fast and no one has time for anything is hard. I worry that we have become a people who share more time with our cell phones and less time with our loved ones. Ordering food is just a delivery away, dating is a thing for apps and why go to birthdays when you can just post a Story with a funny message? Think about it, when was the last time you actually called someone on their birthday?

Yes, life has become easier but it has also become lonelier. Friends have been substituted by followers and operators by automatic messages. If it weren’t for the sound of cars outside, many of us would think that we have been left behind in the world like Pixar’s Wall-E. No wonder we feel down more times than up.

When this happens, I think a lot about the non-digital things that make me happy. I think about dancing which I love, my nephew who is the cutest and my friends. I think about my family and how we love to cook a great meal and have a family fun day where we share stories and laughs. I think about my sisters at Miss World and the Yellow Team and the fun times we all had running around Puerto Rico sharing stories and eating mofongo. And that’s when I realize that all it takes for a happy day is to go out and live an amazing experience! Perhaps it’s a day at the beach or maybe a workout session with your friends from work. All it takes is to get up, go outside and take a breath of fresh air to begin a day of wonder!

Maybe you’ll post about your day on Instagram, maybe you won’t. And that’s ok! Just go out and have the best possible day you can have. Look for adventure, find the rainbows and chase the perfect sunset on a sandy beach with your best friends. Chances are that in 50 years you will not remember how many Likes that sunset got, but you will remember the friends you were with and the stories you shared when it became night.

¡Los quiero mucho!
