Every one of us has the power to lend a helping hand in the world because a crown has no value if it is not used for a purpose.
One of the greatest things about competing at Miss World is that it has given me the chance to think a lot about how I can make a difference in other people’s lives. So often we are used to seeing political leaders, decision-makers and influencers take action while we feel that we have nothing to offer. And yet it is my firm belief that anyone can take actions to impact lives in a positive manner. All it takes is finding a cause, rolling up your sleeves and saying: “Where can I be of help?”
My Beauty with a Purpose Project is a clear example. On October 20th, 2020 the main river that crosses through a community called Río Blanco II in Aragua, my home state, flooded to devastating effects. Many people lost their homes while others were forced to sleep on the roof. The remoteness of this place was also a problem as many people in Venezuela are not aware of the existence of this community. Nevertheless, they were all in need of help.
One of my main concerns while visiting the area was a civic center owned by an amazing woman named Hivis Suárez. The flood had severely damaged the center, especially the kitchen, which Hivis used to feed more than 100 children and 50 elders every day. Sitting down with her to hear her problems, I got an idea: what if I could help in the reconstruction of this center so that Hivis could have a proper kitchen?
And that’s what I did. Knowing little about fund-raising, I gathered all my courage to present my business proposal to several private companies who believed in my dream and offered to help out. No help was too small and thanks to these donations and a social media campaign that informed my followers about the solutions that Río Blanco required; we were able to put our hands to work. Brick by brick, the kitchen was restored and modernized and thanks to other donations we were able to provide books, musical instruments and toys that allow every child in the center to learn and run free.
Every time I visit the center I am amazed by how the lives of these people have changed for the better. It is a lesson that one small positive action can positively impact an entire village. So go out! Find your Río Blanco and see where you can bring hope. Chatting with your community and taking part in local activities will show you that no help is too small and that even offering a hug to someone in need can cause the world to turn.
The smallest of actions can impact the entire world
