Menstrual Health Awareness is a non negotiable
As someone who intimately understands the challenges etched in the fabric of Uganda’s rural districts, I find myself deeply moved by the recent endeavors of of our Beauty With A Purpose Campaign. In the realm of beauty pageantry, where glitz often overshadows grit, we have watched as our commitment as Miss Uganda Foundation to “Beauty with a Purpose” has brought about a profound impact, especially during the globally acknowledged Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Month.
Growing up in Nakaseke, a place where traditions often dictate the narrative for young girls, I recognized the profound significance of the men’s trail awareness campaigns in Mityana and Kabale. It’s not merely about distributing sanitary pads; it’s about illuminating the shadows of misinformation that shroud the lives of these young girls.
Many women especially in rural areas were getting pregnant because they were unaware of the high probability of becoming pregnant, once they started menstruating.
In my campaign, it’s not just to provide a temporary solution; I aspire to keep planting seeds of knowledge. The very knowledge that can empower these girls to navigate the complexities of their own bodies and make informed choices. Having faced similar challenges in my past, I resonate deeply with the idea that education, especially about menstrual health, is a transformative force.
The world as we see it now goes beyond physical campaigns; it permeates the digital realm. Through social media, I call upon each one of us to reflect on the repercussions of poor menstrual health and hygiene management. “Take a moment and think about it.”
A local once shared, “Listening to her (Hannah) discuss these efforts on Mboona FM radio station, it’s evident that her commitment is more than a glamorous obligation; it’s a personal mission. The authenticity in her voice reflects the empathy born out of shared experiences, a move that strikes a chord with me and many others who understand the struggles of humble beginnings.”
As I reflect on my journey as Miss Uganda, I’m reminded that true beauty emanates from a purpose that resonates with the heart. My actions aim to go beyond the runway, creating waves of change that touch the lives of those often overlooked. In my journey, I see myself not just as a beauty queen but a beacon of hope, a reminder that personal narratives, when woven with purpose, have the power to transform communities and inspire a ripple of positive change.
