Sleeping Beauty
"Life is so sweet and merciful .To grant me the simple luxury of sleep. Where I fall into the arms of my dreams...Then to joyously awake and chase them." - Jeanine BrandtOur stay in Puerto Rico at the 70th Miss World pageant was action packed, filled with activity and excitement, condensing fast track challenges, learning dance routines, photoshoots, sightseeing outings and immersion into Puerton Rican culture. And of course, coronation night rehearsals.
The days were as tiring as they were stimulating. And on one day on the bus back to our hotel, off I slipped into the arms of Morpheus for some much needed beauty sleep. I woke up refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the day.
When we sleep, our body recovers and produces growth hormones. These hormones create new cells that help heal skin from damage done during the day.
However, the benefits of beauty sleep go beyond the epidermis. Sleep plays a vital role in our health and well-being, protects mental and physical health, and promotes quality of life and safety. It helps our brains work properly, is involved in healing and repair of the heart and blood vessels, helps maintain a healthy balance of hormones, and affects our blood glucose levels. Our immune system also relies on sleep to stay healthy.
Sleep experts recommend taking a 20-minute nap to wake up feeling refreshed. While napping isn't a replacement for lost sleep, it can help you feel more rested during the day.
