My FANtastic Family

"It takes a village to raise a child” is the English translation of an African proverb that means an entire community of people is responsible for the growth and development of a child. I was that child raised by a village of devoted parents and grandparents, and the extended family.

Today I'm no longer a child, but I still have my entire village around me, upholding me. And they were joined by aunts and uncles, and cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends and neighbours to encourage and support me throughout every stage of my Miss World journey.

"It takes a village to raise a child”"It takes a village to raise a child”

They have been my most spirited cheerleaders, always present in large numbers, the loudest crowd in the auditorium, flying massive banners, having fun and cheering me. From the stage whenever I looked up at the audience they were always there in large numbers, helping me stand proud and tall.

And they remain my devoted groupies. When I left for Puerto Rico, all of them were there at the airport to send me off. I will be leaving again for San Juan in under 2 weeks, knowing that they are with me in spirit and in heart. And their spirit of unconditional love will shine within me for everyone to see.
