Flying in the Face of Fear

"Do one thing everyday that scares you." -Eleanor Roosevelt"Do one thing everyday that scares you." -Eleanor Roosevelt

In 2020 when I entered Miss World I was afraid to speak before an audience, unable to walk in high heels, nervous to walk on a runway and terrified to go on stage. The prospect of doing those things excited and terrified me at the same time.

But something inside me compelled me to pursue this prevailing dream, and as if I was propelled by some intangible force, I simply continued, against my better judgment, ignoring all my fears.

And what happened was almost miraculous. Feeling afraid, diminutive, unaccomplished and clumsy, I pushed past my comfort zone, embracing me fears.

And I've come out on the other side realising that it is very rarely as terrible as you think it will be. There are times you will fall but those stumbles are incomparable to the strength, courage and confidence gained by every experience in which you looked fear in the face.

I am happy that I don't have to live with the "what ifs" or regrets, and my outlook on life has changed.

We are each a blessing to the world, worthy of living fulfilling lives, doing amazing things. And we all have a purpose — so don’t let fear stop you from fulfilling yours.

In this video I am among other things, walking in heels, strutting on the catwalk both in Trinidad and in Puerto Rico and talking before an audience ... conquering my fears and living the life I was meant to live.
