At the Miss World Opening Ceremony, Kavindi Nethmini stood out as a proud ambassador of Sri Lanka, adorned in a traditional dress to represent queen Viharamahadevi.

Queen Viharamahadevi is a revered figure in Sri Lankan history, her legend echoing bravery and selfless sacrifice. She was the daughter of King Kelanitissa, who ruled a coastal kingdom. Legend states that her father's unjust actions angered the sea gods, causing devastating floods. To appease them, a soothsayer decreed that a royal princess must be sacrificed.  Viharamahadevi, with unwavering courage, volunteered. She was set adrift in a boat, calming the raging sea and saving her people. Her noble act immortalized her as a symbol of selfless devotion to one's country.
