Identity, Celebration, Craftmenship, Harmony, Fashion
For Singapore's Designer Dress, I collaborated with the talented costume designer Yan Hong to specially design an elaborated dress for the Miss World 71st Festival Stage in New Delhi. It took a total of 6 months of making after design and planning, it is a well considered design that I wish to celebrate culture and ties.
This designer dress represents my identity as the forth generation of Chinese in Singapore, this dragon theme dress takes on the Chinese culture to represent the union of identity.
The mythical creature dragon is also known for auspiciousness, and this dress took on a modification from the traditional cheongsam. Adorned with hand sewing techniques of 1000 handcrafted scales stitched up together one by one, this dress features the intricacy and high craftmenship from the shoulder pads to the 3 dimensional dragon hover piece.
This is a truly a piece in tribute to the Singaporean Chinese Culture and the traditional Chinese culture, a symbol of friendship ties.
"It is such an honour to be wearing such a artwork to this prestigious pageant global stage, showing not just the designs but most importantly the passion through efforts for Miss World." - Oh Wei Qi, Miss World Singapore
