Holistic Wellbeing through art

1 in 3 Children in Singapore have reported feelings of sadness, anxiety, and loneliness

My advocacy is about holistic well being through art. I’m born in a very simple and humble family), started drawing since 5 years old. My passion led me to my graduation as a distinction scholar of masters in design.

When I was younger, I was a victim of bullying. Battling with fear as a kid, I was told off by a person who I thought would give me empathy who told me that others have bigger problem and I should not be making excuses.

Children education is so important, but what is more important is the environment of education. So many reported news of children abuse in schools, so little speak up because they are just so young and so afraid.

I grew up and realised how crucially important it is to be present and the importance of mental wellness. I turned to become an educator because I want to be the companion for kids who didn’t have enough mental support. I am an art teacher since 2018 for the 6th year. Using art as it empowered me to stay strong, to empower others. I teach many kids of different ages, some with special needs, and with my youngest student currently being 3 years old.

My goal is to become the friend I needed as a kid, and to build an art education of my own. I strongly believe that a mentally healthy kid can bring so much to the world. Whether it is in their life and to the community. Children are the future to our world, and it is our responsibility to protect them.

I really do not have much but I believe that anyone can make a change. Rihanna once said "You don’t have to have lots of money, famous, or the most influential to start a change. Start from the people around you." And a saying I go firmly by "A candle lose nothing when it lights another candle." It is okay to do it one at a time.

Lastly I hope to inspire shy girls who think they are ordinary that they can do anything as long as they "keep swimming" in this "vast ocean" no matter how dark it gets. We are not alone.
