As we celebrate 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls, My island, Saint Lucia (Helen) reminds me of the resilience of women, being the only country in the world to be named after a woman (Helen of Troy)
From my small rural community, I often gaze upon the beauty of our Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to endemic and rare plant and animal species. They have found refuge amidst her lush green vegetation and just by their presence she is even more beautiful.
You see, beauty should not be loud or overbearing for though bruised and battered over the years, her beauty has not faded, for what makes us beautiful, what makes Helen beautiful is the strength and confidence she inspires, it's resilience - it's simply beautiful.
