Miss World Team arrive in Delhi

Miss World Chairman and CEO, Julia Morley, reigning Miss World, Karolina Bielawska and Miss World India 2022, Sini Shetty are in Delhi, India for World Environment Day and International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The Miss World Organisation is continuing the brilliant work of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar whose Beauty With A Purpose project highlighted the severe restrictions and disadvantages faced by young women in India due to having no access or affordability of feminine hygiene products. Manushi saw so many of her friends forced to drop out of education - their lives turned upside down simply because of menstruation.

Manushi’s local project became a National phenomenon and is now a global campaign that represents the rights of women in more than 50 countries.

From the moment Manushi made her presentation, Miss World Chairman and CEO, Julia Morley gave her total support to this inspirational campaign.

Once the scale of the problem was identified a unique solution had to be found as many of the affected women were in rural and impoverished communities and sanitary waste would be a major concern if millions of Sanitary pads were distributed in these areas .

The solution:

An Indian inventor, Jaydeep Mandal, had been working for several months on a new concept - a fully compostable sanitary napkin and he finally achieved his breakthrough using locally sourced raw materials such as Jute, banana pulp and water hyacinth!

Miss World have been working alongside Aakar engaging with world leaders, governments, humanitarians, philanthropists, schools, NGO's, members of the public and media to spread the Feminine Hygiene Awareness message and to champion the work of Jaydeep and Aakar.

Today, International Menstrual Hygiene Day, Julia and Karolina are engaging with 22 schools in Delhi as part of the continuing education program which includes supplying the young ladies with free sanitary pads.

It was a day to remember for hundreds of schoolchildren and local government Sanitary workers at the NDMC theatre in Delhi as Julia, Karolina Bielawska and Sini spoke out for menstrual equality across the world declaring that it should be a basic right for every young women to have access to either free or affordable sanitary pads.
