Karolina honours the legacy of Nelson Mandela
Reigning Miss World, Karolina Bielawska lit up the inaugural Mandela Marathon in Mvezo Komkhulu (The Great Place), South Africa. The event was hosted by Chief Mandela (eldest grandson of President Mandela) to honour the life and legacy of President Nelson Mandela.

Chief Mandela announced that Karolina’s attendance and the support of the Miss World organisation will encourage many more athletes, clubs, federations and sport lovers, from all over the world, to participate in future events. Chief Mandela said, “In President Nelson Mandela’s words, ‘The winner is the dreamer that never gives up!’ That is why I am so proud of everyone who attended the race and decided not to give up.”
The full Marathon was run over 42.2 KM. The race started from Qunu Museum and the finish line was the birthplace of Nelson Mandela, Mvezo.
Nelson Mandela was a keen sportsman throughout his life and was proud to host the rugby and football world cups in a free, democratic South Africa. He believed in the transformative power of sport.
