Day 3: Opening Ceremony and National Costume

How could I not share about the national costume from my beloved Perú? Here we go. For a while, I devoted myself to selecting, with love and tradition, the outfit that I would proudly bring to this incredible experience of being the voice of my country to the whole world.

Representing national heritage, this red attire, especially worn at the 71st Miss World inauguration ceremony, symbolizes the strength and fierceness of an Amazonian guardian. It is crafted with the scales of the paiche fish (the largest fish in the Amazon River) and seeds of the huayruru tree, which symbolize success and good luck.

According to our ancestral traditions and wisdom, the guardian hailed from a royal lineage of indigenous peoples. Representing love and through the sound of the musical instrument called “quena”, she was in charge of delivering peace and tranquillity to her people in times of conflict, violence and war. Wearing it fills me with pride, and I feel the full power of the Peruvian jungle, reaffirming my passion for national identity and the hope that our traditions will transcend borders.

¡Cómo no contarles acerca de un traje típico de mi amado Perú! Aquí vamos. Durante un tiempo, me dediqué a elegir, desde el amor y la tradición, el traje que, con mucha honra y respeto, traería a esta increíble experiencia de ser la voz de mi país ante el mundo entero.

En representación de la cultura nacional, este atuendo rojo especialmente utilizado para la ceremonia de inauguración del 71 Miss World, simboliza la fuerza y potencia de toda guardiana de la Amazonia. Se encuentra confeccionado con escamas de paiche (el pez más grande que habita las aguas del río Amazonas) y semillas de huayruro que, por su color, simbolizan el éxito y la buena suerte.

Según las tradiciones y sabidurías ancestrales, la guardiana provenía del linaje real de los pueblos originarios. Y, en representación del amor y mediante el sonido de un instrumento musical denominado quena, se encargaba de dar paz y tranquilidad a su pueblo, en tiempos de conflictos, violencia y guerras. Al llevarlo puesto, con mucha emoción, siento toda la fuerza de la selva peruana, lo que reafirma mi pasión por la identidad nacional y el deseo de que nuestras costumbres trasciendan las fronteras.
