Tanzania has officially secured the rights to host the 74th edition of the Miss World Festival in May 2027, marking a historic moment for the nation and for the African continent. The hosting agreement was signed at the Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam, confirming Tanzania as the fourth African country, after South Africa, Seychelles and Nigeria, to stage Miss World, and the first nation in continental East and Central Africa to do so. 

The announcement was made during a formal signing ceremony attended by Julia Morley CBE, Chairwoman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, alongside reigning Miss World Opal Suchata, Miss World Africa Hasset Dereje, and newly crowned Miss World Tanzania Latricia Ian. 

Government officials described the achievement as a milestone for Tanzania’s international image and tourism ambitions. Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Makonda said the festival will serve as a strategic global platform to showcase Tanzania’s tourism, culture, creative industries, and investment opportunities. 

The month-long festival is expected to attract over 20,000 international visitors, while global television and digital reach could surpass two billion viewers worldwide, giving Tanzania unprecedented international exposure. Organizers anticipate a full calendar of events including welcome ceremonies, cultural showcases, fast-track events, charity initiatives, fashion shows, and the grand final. 

For Miss World, the move also represents another step in its expanding relationship with Africa, a continent that has long produced standout contestants, titleholders, and Beauty With a Purpose leaders. 

Julia Morley CBE emphasized the transformative role tourism can play in creating jobs, supporting families, and connecting nations. She encouraged Tanzanians to take pride in presenting their country to the world through warmth, professionalism, and hospitality. 

Before going to Tanzania, the Miss World Festival will travel to Vietnam, host nation of the 73rd edition and the celebration of 75 years of Miss World history, running from August 9 to September 5, 2026. That means two major chapters now await the Miss World family: first Vietnam’s anniversary celebration, then Tanzania’s groundbreaking African showcase in 2027.

With the Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar’s coastlines, vibrant cities, and rich cultural identity, Tanzania now prepares to welcome the world for a festival purpose, culture, sports, talent, fashion and nations meeting in friendship.
