Queen Bhupati Indralakshmi Devi is remembered as a noble consort of the Khmer Empire, believed to have lived during the height of its influence in the region that now includes northeastern Thailand. While historical records are fragmentary, inscriptions and temple art suggest she was closely associated with the royal court that oversaw the construction and spiritual life of sacred sites such as Phanom Rung.

She is often linked to the patronage of Hindu-Brahmanic rituals, particularly those dedicated to Lord Shiva, whose worship defined the purpose of Phanom Rung as a mountain sanctuary. She is thought to have supported ceremonies, offerings, and the preservation of spiritual traditions that connected the monarchy to the divine.

Today, her legacy lives through the enduring artistry of stone carvings, temple alignments with the sun, and the cultural memory carried across generations.

Each year, the Phanom Rung Festival transforms this ancient sanctuary into living history, where rituals, processions, and performances revive the spirit of the Khmer court and the sacred world it inhabited.

It was within this setting that Opal Suchata Chuangsri, the reigning Miss World, stepped into history.

Joining the royal procession, Opal embodied Queen Bhupati Indralakshmi Devi, wearing a costume inspired by ancient stone carvings and historical interpretations of the queen. Every detail was meticulously crafted to reflect the elegance, dignity, and spiritual significance of Khmer-Thai cultural heritage, bringing the past into the present with striking authenticity.

The procession itself drew inspiration from royal ceremonies believed to have taken place on this very land thousands of years ago. With a newly crafted royal palanquin, traditional regalia, and the dedication of hundreds of performers, the festival offered a rare and powerful glimpse into history, brought vividly back to life.
