Reigning Miss World Trinidad & Tobago, Georgia Lee Gill, is using her platform to address one of today’s most relevant issues: the intersection of cybercrime and vulnerability among the elderly, particularly those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

In collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Gill recently led her first awareness session aimed at young people aged 18 to 25, giving them the knowledge and tools to help protect their loved ones from online threats.

The initiative comes at a time when cybercrime continues to surge globally. According to Cybersecurity Ventures, cybercrime damages are projected to surpass USD 10.5 trillion annually by 2026, underscoring the growing urgency of digital literacy and protection, especially for vulnerable communities.

Gill highlighted both the simplicity and the importance of awareness:

“My first session focused on cybercrime and how easily elders can be targeted by phishing scams and new technology. Think about your grandmother, grandfather, parent, or neighbour, many of them are navigating the digital world alone, and sometimes a quick check-in from us can make all the difference.”

She emphasized the role of younger generations as protectors in an increasingly digital society:

“As young people in the Caribbean, we have the power to protect our elders from online threats. Our tech skills can be their shield. Let’s stand up, stay vigilant, and make cyberspace safer for them.”

For Gill, this initiative is personal. Her advocacy stems from her own experience caring for her grandmother, who lives with Alzheimer’s, a journey that shaped not only her Beauty With a Purpose (BWAP) project but also her broader vision for impact.

“Dementia is a quiet heartbreak that reshapes families. One of my most difficult moments is knowing your loved one may not even recognize you, sometimes seeing you as a stranger. Yet from this pain came purpose.”

That purpose materialized in the creation of her PA Foundation, dedicated to the education, empowerment, and support of caregivers and youth across Trinidad & Tobago. Through this platform, Gill has worked to provide safe spaces, resources, and guidance for families navigating the emotional and practical challenges of dementia care.

“I came to realize that many families provide care without professional support, carrying heavy mental, physical, emotional, and financial strain all by themselves.”

Her foundation operates in partnership with medical professionals and institutions, including the Alzheimer’s Association of Trinidad & Tobago, ensuring that those in need can access expert support and information.

Gill describes her journey to the Miss World stage as one of transformation, one that prepared her for the responsibilities she now embraces:

“It was a year of transformation that carried me through lessons, journeys, truths, and surprises that pushed me to shed an old version of myself and step boldly into a new vision.”

Her academic background, a double major in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies, combined with her advocacy work, is a balance of scientific understanding and human empathy.

Gill continues to immerse herself in cultural and community experiences, from engaging in national arts like the steelpan to connecting with grassroots organizations, embracing a leadership style rooted in authenticity and connection.

Through her work, Georgia Lee Gill is transforming her title into a platform for education, protection, and compassion, considering that awareness is power, and collective action can safeguard the most vulnerable.

“Our memories are one of the greatest gifts we hold. To lose them is to lose pieces of ourselves. That is why this work matters.”
