October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, educate communities, and support survivors of abuse. In tribute to this cause, Reigning Miss World Oceania Jasmine Stringer recently hosted the Touch of Love Tournament Day on the Gold Coast, remembering her friend Tara Brown’s passing due to domestic violence ten years ago.

Jasmine’s Beauty With a Purpose project, titled Breaking The Silence, focuses on domestic violence awareness and was inspired by the loss of her close friend. Since the inception of The Tara Brown Foundation for Domestic and Family Violence Relief, Jasmine has been an active supporter, using her Beauty With a Purpose platform to help amplify the foundation’s mission and reach.

Tara Brown was a passionate and accomplished touch football player, celebrated for her achievements at the highest level of the game. Each year, Jasmine and volunteers host the “Touch of Love” touch football tournament in Tara’s memory, raising funds for victims of domestic violence and the charities that support them.

This year’s event, held at Gold Coast Touch in Owen Park, Southport, Queensland, featured entertainment, raffles, face painting, and food stalls, creating a family-friendly atmosphere while driving home an important message. Local businesses also participated by donating raffle prizes, helping raise additional funds and awareness for the cause.

Jasmine reflected on the day’s success through social media, writing:

“Another successful Touch of Love tournament remembering Tara and raising vital funds to support victims of Domestic Violence.

It has been 10 years since Tara was murdered, and seeing everyone gather to honour her year after year will always be so special.

We are a small committee at the Tara Brown Foundation and rely on sponsors and volunteers to make this day happen. Thank you to everyone who came and helped out all day.”

The event concluded with a touching tribute titled “Bubbles for Tara”, where hundreds gathered to remember Tara and celebrate her lasting legacy.

“10 years on and hundreds of people still gather to remember you and honour your name and legacy.

We will never stop remembering and loving you, Tara. We will never stop fighting to end domestic violence.”
