Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh was officially honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking another milestone in a career. During her acceptance speech, Yeoh reflected on her path from Malaysia to Hollywood, emphasizing connection, and the people who supported her along the way. 

“The path from Malaysia to here was not a straight line. There were moments I wondered if I belonged, but I was fortunate to be part of stories that crossed boundaries & languages, showing deeply connected we really are. This star represents so many people who helped me in this journey. The truth is that where you begin does not define where you can go.”

The ceremony brought together close friends and collaborators, including filmmaker Jon M. Chu, actress Sandra Oh, and actor Ke Huy Quan. Tributes were also delivered by acclaimed director Ang Lee, highlighting Yeoh’s influence across generations and cultures.

Yeoh’s global acclaim was recently crowned with an Academy Award for her extraordinary performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, adding to a filmography that includes classics such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Long before Hollywood stardom, Yeoh’s journey took a decisive turn in 1983 when her mother enrolled her in the Miss World Malaysia pageant without even telling her in advance, believing Michelle needed more stage experience and confidence. Yeoh went on to win the national title at just 21 years old and represented Malaysia at Miss World in London, narrowly missing a Top 15 placement. She ranked 18th overall and third in Asia, behind only Israel and Hong Kong, a near-miss that nonetheless marked the beginning of a remarkable international career.

From Miss World Malaysia to an Oscar-winning actress now immortalized in Hollywood, Michelle Yeoh proudly belongs to the Miss World Hall of Fame, alongside so many remarkable women who have gone on to succeed in film, television, and countless other fields.
