Entrepreneur and social impact advocate Nikita Porwal, Miss World India, has highlighted the transformative role of education and vocational training in empowering tribal communities, following a recent visit to the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), one of the world’s largest educational institutions dedicated to indigenous students.

Porwal described it as one of the most inspiring moments of her journey, pointing to the determination of young tribal students engaged in vocational and skills-development programs designed to prepare them for independent and sustainable futures.

According to Miss World India, the visit reinforced her long-held belief that talent has never been absent within India’s tribal communities. Rather, the challenge has often been access to educational opportunities, infrastructure, and resources needed to unlock that potential.

Walking through the institution’s workshops, she observed students developing practical skills that could open doors to employment and entrepreneurship. Beyond technical training, she emphasized the confidence and sense of purpose being cultivated among participants, mentioning education as a catalyst for individual success and also for wider community development.

The initiative goes along the goals of Project MAATI, which is focused on expanding opportunities for underserved communities through education, health, nutrition, and access to essential resources. Porwal stressed that empowerment begins long before opportunities arise, requiring the preparation and support necessary for individuals to seize them when they do.

“The hands that are learning today will become the hands that lead tomorrow,” Porwal said, emphasizing the long-term impact of investing in education and skills training as a pathway toward lasting social change.

She will represent India at the 75th Anniversary Miss World Celebrations, from August 9 to September 5.
