Reigning Miss World Cameroon, Noura Njikam, marked Cameroon’s Unity Day on May 20 by bringing out the theme “Resistance & Heritage: Memory,” reflecting on her country’s history, identity, and the values that continue to unite its people.

Noura shared images from a dedicated photo session, featuring symbolic elements and visual references to the historical process that led to Cameroon’s unity.

In a message shared on social media, Noura explained that her idea was to honor “the memory of resistance, sacrifices, preserved traditions, and the voices that have helped shape the history of Cameroon.” She emphasized the importance of preserving heritage and remembering the struggles and achievements passed down through generations.

Unity Day, also known as Cameroon’s National Day, is celebrated every year on May 20. The date commemorates the 1972 national referendum in which Cameroonians voted to replace the country’s federal system with a unified state, officially creating the United Republic of Cameroon. The day symbolizes national unity between the country’s English-speaking and French-speaking regions and is marked by military parades, cultural celebrations, and official ceremonies across the country.

Noura described memory as “the link between our past, our present, and our future,” adding that unity is built not only in the present, but also through shared history and collective heritage. Her message concluded with a call to preserve the values and traditions that continue to strengthen Cameroon’s national identity.

Noura will represent Cameroon at the 75th Anniversary Edition of Miss World, from August 9 to September 5, in Vietnam.
