Alina Luz Akselrad, the reigning Miss World Argentina, recently took part in the traditional grape harvest in Colonia Caroya, a historic winemaking town in the province of Córdoba. Sharing her experience, she highlighted the cultural significance of wine in Argentina, where it has been officially recognized as the country’s National Drink since 2010.

According to Alina, participating in the harvest is a meaningful tradition she shares with her family every year. The activity honors their ancestors and celebrates the agricultural roots that helped shape local communities and the nation’s wine industry.

Colonia Caroya is known for its strong winemaking heritage, influenced by Italian immigrants who settled in the region in the late 19th century and brought with them viticulture techniques that still define the area today.

Argentina is the world’s 5th largest wine producer, behind countries like Italy, France, and Spain. The country is internationally famous for the Malbec grape variety, which thrives in Argentina’s climate and has become its flagship wine. Vineyards in Argentina are among the highest in the world, with some located over 3,000 meters above sea level in the Andes foothills. Argentina produces more than 1,000 wine labels, exporting to over 120 countries.
