The reigning Miss World, Opal Suchata, and Miss World Africa, Hasset Dereje from Ethiopia, were warmly welcomed by the Doris Mollel Foundation and Mustafa Hassanali during an emotional visit to the Neonatal Ward of Mwananyamala Referral Hospital, as part of their official visit while in Dar es Salaam.

The visit left a deep impression on the Miss World delegation, who witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by premature babies and the critical care provided to help them survive. Deeply moved by the dedication of the medical staff and the resilience of the mothers, Opal and Hasset praised the Doris Mollel Foundation’s life-saving work and its ongoing donation of essential medical equipment.

The Miss World team also expressed keen interest in exploring ways to expand this impact, helping more hospitals across Tanzania access similar support and resources.

Founded in 2015 by Doris Mollel, a former Miss Tanzania 2014 2nd Runner-Up who was herself born prematurely at just 900 grams, the foundation began as her Beauty With a Purpose project. Today, it has transformed into a nationwide initiative that has supported more than 17,000 premature and sick newborns. Beyond medical aid, the foundation advocates for policy changes and law reforms, creating a more supportive environment for mothers and young girls facing the challenges of premature birth.

Doris continues to champion neonatal care alongside Swahili Fashion Week, ensuring this cause reaches every corner of society. “Every baby deserves a chance to survive and live a happy life,” she emphasizes.
