Miss World 2025 Suchata “Opal” Chuangsri has been named one of the Bangkok Post Women of the Year 2026, a prestigious recognition celebrating women whose leadership and vision are reshaping society. The announcement comes as the Bangkok Post marks 80 years of journalistic excellence, highlighting female leaders under this year’s theme: “Architect of New Power.”

At just 22 years old, Opal stands out among the honorees for turning a personal health struggle into a nationwide advocacy campaign focused on breast cancer awareness, early detection, and access to care.

When she was 16, Opal faced a frightening diagnosis: large lumps measuring up to 10 centimeters were discovered in both breasts. Surgery was required to remove the masses, which fortunately proved benign.

Determined to ensure other young women would not face the same fear and uncertainty alone, she launched the initiative “Opal for Her”, a campaign dedicated to improving awareness and access to breast cancer screening.

Through her Braveheart podcast and the foundation’s outreach programs, Opal encourages young women to understand their health risks, learn the importance of early detection, and seek medical care without delay.

The Opal for Her initiative has already raised more than 1 million baht, helping expand breast cancer awareness and screening services across Thailand.

Working closely with Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, the National Cancer Institute, hospitals, and non-profit partners, the program supports a national effort to strengthen breast cancer care systems.

One of the campaign’s most impactful initiatives is the deployment of high-efficiency mobile mammography units, developed in partnership with institutions including Vejthani Hospital. These mobile clinics bring free breast-cancer screening to underserved communities throughout the country.

Beyond screening, the program also focuses on public education, prevention, and patient support, helping women navigate diagnosis and treatment with guidance and resources.

Opal’s recognition as a Bangkok Post Woman of the Year also reflects the global visibility she has brought to her cause since becoming Thailand’s first-ever Miss World winner.

She made history on May 31, 2025, when she captured the Miss World crown in Hyderabad, India, marking a landmark moment for Thailand in the pageant’s 74-year history.

Fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese, Opal initially entered the modeling industry before transitioning to pageantry.

She is currently studying Political Science with a major in International Relations at Thammasat University, and is widely praised for her articulate communication style and global perspective.

Raised in Phuket and educated at Triam Udom Suksa School, Opal grew up in a family that runs a private business in Phuket Old Town. Her upbringing, academic ambitions, and personal health journey have shaped her belief that influence must always be used to create meaningful impact.

Today, as a Bangkok Post Woman of the Year, she embodies what the publication calls the “Architects of New Power”: women redefining leadership through empathy, resilience, and action.
