Mia Zottoli just became the first 2028 Miss World confirmed participant.

Taranto’s Mia Zottoli Montanaro to represent Italy at the 74th edition of Miss World, in 2028.

Mia Zottoli Montanaro, 21 years old, from Taranto in the southern Italian region of Puglia, was crowned Miss World Italy 2026 on June 14, following the national final held at the Ecoresort Le Sirené in Gallipoli. She is the first national ambassador crowned to represent her country at the 75th Miss World Festival, in 2028.

Born and raised in Taranto, Zottoli Montanaro proudly embraces her Argentine family roots while representing the traditions and culture of southern Italy. She turns 22 on August 15 and was selected from a field of 30 finalists.

Before pursuing modeling and advertising work, Mia built a successful sporting career as a volleyball player. She competed for six years and reached Italy’s Serie B2 championship with Castellaneta Volleyball. She has frequently credited sport with shaping her character, teaching her discipline, teamwork, and respect for others.

Describing herself as determined, positive, and detail-oriented, Mia says she enjoys fashion, sport, the sea, and craftsmanship. Mia has spoken of the competition as a unique experience of personal growth and has emphasized the importance of family support throughout her journey.

The national final was hosted by Italian entertainer Antonio Mezzancella and featured performances by violinist Pierpaolo Foti and singer Valerio Scanu. Basma Zaid was the 1st runner-up.

Italy has a long history at Miss World, dating back to 1954. Among the country’s strongest results was Giorgia Palmas’ 1st Runner-Up finish at Miss World 2000. More recently, Chiara Esposito represented Italy at the 72nd Miss World Festival in India, where she placed in the Top 20 (Top 5 in Europe, Top 3 in Talent).

Before Mia gets her turn to represent Italy at Miss World, in 2028, the country will be represented by her two predecessors: Lucrezia Mangilli in 2026, and Sofia Viola in 2027.
