It felt like all 5700 people living in the village came out in the streets in full force to honor their first Miss Botswana
In the last week of June, the village of Masunga made history as it welcomed home its very first Miss Botswana titleholder, Ruth Thomas, crowned Miss Botswana 2025. The occasion marked a powerful milestone, not just for Ruth, but for the entire community that raised her.
From a vibrant motorcade to an enthusiastic celebration at the Masunga Main Kgotla, it felt like all 5700 people living in the village came together in full force to honor their Miss Botswana’s win. Ruth’s return showed how proud her entire community was.
“We witnessed not just the celebration of a crown, but a celebration of unity, heritage, and homegrown excellence,” said a representative of the Miss Botswana Organization.
During her visit, Ruth took part in a school tour, engaging with students and community members, sharing words of encouragement, and embodying the values that earned her the national crown. Each moment was met with cheers, gratitude, and overwhelming affection from residents young and old.
The celebration was graced by notable local leaders, including Kgosi Thabo Maruje III, MmaKgosi Edith Maruje, Kgosi Thabo Monaga, Honourable Councillor Dube and Mrs. Dube, and Assistant District Commissioner Mme Ramotiti.
The whole event is now considered one of the most significant public celebrations in Masunga’s history.
Ruth was honored with a generous array of gifts from the community, reflecting the depth of love and pride felt across the village. Among the items she received:
- A brand-new television
- Two microwaves
- A washing machine
- An air fryer
- A blender
- P10,000.00 in cash
These tokens of appreciation were made possible through contributions from the people of Masunga, whose support left a deep impression on the Miss Botswana Organization.
“We felt the warmth, the pride, and the unwavering support, and we know Ruth felt it even more,” the organization shared. “This was more than a celebration. It was a royal welcome home.”
As Ruth Thomas prepares to represent Botswana on the global stage at the 73rd Miss World Festival next year, she carries not only the hopes of a nation, but the undeniable spirit of Masunga, a village that proved that true royalty begins at home.

After the excitement of her unforgettable homecoming, Ruth Thomas took a quiet moment to reconnect with what grounds her most: family and home.
She spent cherished time with loved ones and visited the family farm, a place filled with childhood memories, laughter, and the humble beginnings that shaped the woman she is today.
Ruth also had a fun lesson with her parents on how to properly milk a goat, and spoiler alert: she definitely need more classes!
