On this Valentine's Day, a global day celebrating love, I could not not tell you about this wonderful Indian palace, symbol of love and romance: the Taj Mahal, one of the most visited sites in India, in Asia and around the world.
This mausoleum built entirely of white marble was erected by the Muslim Mughal Emperor Shâh Jahân in honor of his late wife Arjumand Bânu Begam, who died while giving birth to their fourteenth child.

While he was already known for the sumptuous constructions carried out during his reign, he ordered the construction of a sublime mausoleum on the banks of the Yamuna River to honor his memory. The work lasted twenty years, under the supervision of the Indo-Persian architect Ustad Ahmad Lahouri.
On January 31, 1666, Shâh Jahân died in turn: he was buried alongside his wife at the Taj Mahal.
The Taj Mahal is the symbol of absolute and universal love. The love that Emperor Shâh Jahân had for his wife Arjumand Bânu Begam to the point of dedicating to her a mausoleum whose construction will take years, and which will allow the inconsolable emperor to alleviate his pain by perpetuating the memory of his deceased wife.
