All of us 112 Miss World participants had the honour to be present at this inspiring workshop, connecting with the Army Wives Welfare Association
On February 25th, all of us 112 Miss World participants, along with Julia Morley CBE, Miss World, Karolina Bielawska, and Miss World 2018, Vanessa Ponce de Leon, attended the Women Empowerment and Sustainability workshop, hosted by AWWA - the Army Wives Welfare Association, at the Ashok Hall, Manekshaw Centre.
In a heartwarming display of solidarity and empowerment, the Army Wives Welfare Association hosted this extraordinary event which showcased the invaluable contributions of military spouses around the world. During the visit, the Army Wives Association had the opportunity to share stories and experiences, fostering a sense of camaraderie and understanding amongst all.
For myself, the experience was equally enriching. Immersed in the company of these remarkable women, she gained insight into the unique challenges faced by military families and was inspired by their unwavering spirit. In a world often marked by division, this extraordinary encounter underscored the importance of coming together to support one another, regardless of background or circumstance.
Julia Morley, Chairwoman of the Miss World Organisation, emphasised the importance of supporting military families and shared a very interesting life event with all those present. In 1972, Julia visited Singapore and as she could not sleep due to jet lag (happened to me here in India), she was looking out from her hotel window and saw an old lady walking with two bags full of food, washing and feeding several street children. The next day, she decided to look out from her window again at the same time, wondering if the old lady was showing up again. There she was, walking with two bags, doing the same thing as she did the day before. Julia, ran quickly downstairs from her room and she went to the lady and asked "Why are you doing this every day? The same problem will still be here tomorrow." The lady had a very inspiring reply to Julia which turned to become her legacy - "Ain't it better to light one candle in the dark than not to see at all?” Beauty With A Purpose as we have it today, is what Miss World is all about, and together we are shining light on what matters to us and we are successfully promoting our projects at Miss World, making a difference one day at a time.
As the Army Wives Association continues its mission to provide support and empowerment to military families, the visit will undoubtedly remain a cherished memory—a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit and the beauty of unity in diversity.
