From a young age, my mother encouraged me to pursue my dreams in the arts and therefore, she enrolled me for both music and drama classes. Hence, for the Miss World Talent Challenge, I dedicated my entry as a tribute to my late grandfather who was a father figure throughout my life. His support to my mother in my upbringing was essential for me to be the young woman I am today with such a strong mindset and hard-working ethic to always strive to be the best version of myself.
As explained by Dean Lewis, in the song ‘How Do I Say Goodbye’, the vocalist is mourning his dying father. With a constant presence throughout his life, losing his father was something he couldn’t conceptualise. I can relate to this piece of music since it was devastating to unexpectedly receive a phone call that my grandfather collapsed and is having his last breaths. Losing him suddenly I felt that the world came crashing down on me. Nonetheless, his legacy will continue to live on through the memories and values he instilled in me that will live long and forever be cherished.
Nannu, I did not get to perform this piece live in front of the whole world, but I am still here, hanging on to a dream I hold so dear to my heart. Just like you always thought me, I will continue to believe in myself, fight harder and believe in the power I hold within myself to reach my dreams. Most importantly, I will continue to be a torch of light in the darkness and serve my purpose. Nannu, this one is for you.
