Unveiling the profound interconnection between mental and physical well-being, this speech illuminates how the state of our minds reverberates throughout our bodies. From heightened risks of chronic illnesses to compromised immune systems, the toll of untreated mental health issues is palpable. Through compelling narratives and scientific insights, the discourse underscores the imperative of nurturing mental resilience for overall health. It challenges conventional divides between mind and body, advocating for integrated approaches to healthcare that recognize the profound impact of mental wellness on our physical vitality.
Coming from a country with the highest suicide rate and also being a fashion designer, I’m aware of the crucial role that the beauty industry plays in the overall deteriorating health of women. In the spirit of “One Earth, One Family, One Future," it's imperative that we address a pressing issue that affects not just women in my country, but women globally.
According to the World Health Organization, at least 14 million people experience eating disorders annually and 1 in 500000 die from cosmetic procedures. That is 1 too many. Depression and eating disorders increase the risk of severe physical health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
The point I’m driving home is that wellness encompasses not only the body but also the mind and spirit and therefore Our leaders need to prioritise mental health by thoroughly integrating it into primary healthcare services because that is the real killer.
While we cannot overhaul the beauty industry overnight, each of us bears a responsibility to foster a culture of love and acceptance. By doing so, we can strive towards a culture where everyone can live up to their fullest mental and physical potential.
