As a researcher currently pursuing a Ph.D. in disaster risk reduction, I felt compelled to address the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident caused by the tsunami in Japan. I fully understand that there are differing opinions worldwide regarding the radioactive contamination and the treated water from the plant. However, I believe that sharing what I have personally seen and experienced—and encouraging open, even controversial, discussions around the world—is both meaningful and necessary.
