The "Save the Tiger" campaign is supported by Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs, Fisheries, Government of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar and is an important part of the Multimedia Challenge.
The Tadoba Festival 2024 aimed to celebrate the success story of Tadoba and illuminate it on the global stage. It seeked to highlight Maharashtra's commitment to the twin goals of wildlife conservation and community development. The three-day festival showcased the biodiversity of the TATR and highlighted the efforts of forest personnel, communities living in and around forests, scientific institutions, and the non-governmental sector. It also deliberated the challenges and solutions for the future of tiger conservation.
Established in 1995, and often hailed as the Tiger Capital of Maharashtra, TATR stands as a beacon of India's rich natural heritage. Its tropical dry deciduous forest ecosystem shelters an impressive population of over 90 tigers, contributing significantly to a larger landscape that boasts more than 200 of these majestic animals. This thriving tiger population marks a remarkable accomplishment, making it the fastest-growing tiger population in the country.
Beyond its renowned tiger population, Tadoba also provides sanctuary to a diverse range of carnivorous species, including leopards and dholes. The reserve's rich biodiversity is further enriched by the presence of sambar, chital, wild pig, and gaur, which serve as the primary prey species.
