I am honoured to be a voluntary ambassador for the Dyslexia Association of Ireland as part of my Miss Ireland 'Beauty with a Purpose' campaign. This is very important to me as I was identified as dyslexic as a teenager.
I recently had the opportunity to take part in a Dyslexia Awareness campaign as part of Dyslexia Awareness Month 2023.
Dyslexia is a learning difference that can cause difficulties with reading, writing, spelling and processing skills. It occurs on a spectrum from mild to severe and affects 10% of people world wide - that's roughly 3 children in every classroom that will be dyslexic.
I use my platform as Miss Ireland to bring more awareness about dyslexia; what it is, it's misconceptions, how it can affect your self-esteem, how you can get assessed, what supports are available, it's challenges but also it's positives, and what steps everyone can take to make our world a more dyslexic friendly one.
