I have always had a soft corner for children. I do anything that I can do for them in the smallest ways, to see their faces gleam with happiness. One such day, when I volunteered for a kids' day out at the spa, was such an fulfilling experience for me. I was invited by the Desire Society, an NGO in Mumbai, to Babysutra, India's first exclusive kids' spa and salon.

Desire Society, a non-profit voluntary organisation established in 2004, focuses on disadvantaged children abandoned by one or both parents, children of sex workers, truck drivers, and children who have been abused and belong to poor socio-economic conditions. As of today, the organisation houses up to 800 such children across the country.

My Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) project 10-9-8 is an initiative that raises awareness for the child helpline rescue number 1098. Amid the ongoing pandemic, there has been a tremendous rise in the number of child marriage cases, forced child labour, and sexual abuse. And even though the national hotline for child protection, 1098, exists in India, there is very low public awareness of either the hotline or the problem.

At the spa, I ensured that the kids were pampered at the salon with various services like manicure, pedicure, nail art, and hairstyling. The kids were absolutely amazed and enjoyed every bit of their pampering at the salon.

With a view to providing a fun experience for the kids along with maintaining protocols, these sessions were conducted by certified professionals, keeping safety a priority. I spent quality time with the kids and had a fabulous time decorating cupcakes and making lip balms with them, amongst other fun activities.
