Shifting mindsets on pageantry

For the longest time in my country, there was a national misconception about pageantry. Most people failed to understand the purpose of it, either deeming it frivolous, trivial or just a mean to objectify women and their value.

This year’s participation in the Miss World contest not only broke the stigma but also shifted all negative beliefs into positive ones.

My team and I communication plan influenced the country to pay close attention to the competition and its candidate throughout the 28 days in Puerto Rico. It opened up minds, gave new knowledge on the competition. Therefore, a new perspective on pageantry was instilled and its relevance became nationwide. It is way more than what the eyes can meet, it’s deep and meaningful. It is beauty, brain, heart and purpose. It has indeed brought a positive impact on my society.

Through my representation at Miss World, parents now are willing to allow their daughters to participate in pageants. Further more, a population that has always been only about soccer/ football now piques an interest in something else, sees its value and fully supports it in all ways.

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new era.
