L’histoire de thanksgiving : Cette tradition nord américaine vient du 17ème siècle. Lors de l’expédition des Pilgrim Fathers qui sont arrivés en 1620 sur le rocher de Plymouth. Ils frôlèrent la mort par manque de nourriture, ils sont aidés par les populations locales les Wampanagos, qui leur offrirent de la nourriture, leur ont appris a pêcher, chasser, et cultiver les terres pour qu’ils puissent être autonomes et pouvoir survivre.

 L’année suivante, les pèlerins font leu première récolte, et pour célébrer ça, invitent 92 Wampanagos. Ce repas avait pour but de remercier Dieu d’avoir permis à cette colonie de survivre. Tous les ans, les Américains célèbrèrent a cette date leur statut de peuple élu de Dieu. Thanksgiving est devenue une fête nationale depuis 1863 grâce au président Abraham Lincoln.

Cette fête n’est pas célébrée en France, et c’était une première de fêter Thanksgiving, et en plus à Miss Monde! C’est avant toute chose un moment de partage entre tous, et ce moment m’a fait pensé aux fêtes de Noël en France, où les familles se regroupent pour partager un bon moment autour d’un repas copieux.

Chaque table avait sa porte parole, qui souhaitais le meilleur à tous. Et pour l’occasion, nous avons eu la chance de voir en vrai Toni - Ann Singh chanter et nous avons toutes été scotchée. J’en ai encore des frissons.

C’était un vrai moment de partage de culture entre tous.

The history of Thanksgiving : This North American tradition dates back to the 17th Century with the Pilgrim Fathers' expedition, who arrived in 1620 on Plymouth Rock. They almost died because they lacked food but they were helped by the local people, the Wampanagos, who offered them food, taught them how to fish, to hunt, and cultivate the land, so that they could be self-sufficient and survive.

 The following year, the Pilgrims harvested their first crops, and to celebrate, invited 92 Wampanagos. The purpose of this meal was to thank God for allowing the colony to survive. Every year on this date, Americans celebrated their status as God's chosen people. Thanksgiving became a bank holiday in 1863, thanks to President Abraham Lincoln.

This holiday is not celebrated in France, and so it was my first Thanksgiving, and I got to celebrate it at Miss World! It is above all a moment of sharing between everyone, and this moment made me think of Christmas celebrations in France, where families gather to share a good moment around a copious meal.

Each table had their spokesperson, who wished everyone the best. And for the occasion, we had the chance to see Toni-Ann Singh sing and we were all blown away. I still get chills.

It was a real moment of sharing between all of us.
