Today was a powerful day that unfolded in the heart of Delhi, within the historical walls of the Red Fort. I had the privilege of accompanying the Miss World contestants on a visit to a remarkable school, "Than Singh Ki Pathshala," nestled within the iconic surroundings of the Red Fort.
The man behind this inspiring initiative is Than Singh, a head police constable stationed at Red Fort, Delhi. Not only does he full fill his professional duties with dedication, but he also is someone with a heart of Gold. In 2015, Singh established a school for slum children, addressing a crucial need in the community.
As we stepped into the vibrant environment of Than Singh Ki Pathshala, I was moved by the stories of resilience and hope that echoed through its walls. Singh recognized a pressing issue – the children of those working at the fort were missing out on education. To bridge this gap, he created a haven for them, ensuring they not only received an education but also felt safe.
I had the pleasure of hearing a 10-year-old girl express her happiness at being part of this unique school, where safety and education intertwine. It reminded me of the profound impact that feeling secure can have on one's ability to dream and aspire for greatness, unencumbered by life's circumstances.
Among the bright students, I encountered a young boy named Ravi, who delivered a beautiful speech on women empowerment, and was showing me how he has learned to read in English. These children, despite their circumstances, radiate kindness and love – qualities that often elude those with more privilege.
When asked what I took away from this experience, my initial response was the importance of contentment and gratitude for our blessings. However, upon reflection, a more profound realization struck me – the invaluable lesson that kindness and empathy are priceless, freely available to all.
In a world where we often measure worth in material terms, the children of Than Singh Ki Pathshala reminded me that true richness lies in the ability to be kind without expecting anything in return.
