  • 116 participants

In a glittering ceremony held at the Dongsheng Stadium Wenxia YU won the title of Miss World 2012. In a record breaking year 116 contestants represented their countries on the world stage in what was a celebration of Ordos and a gathering of friends from around the world.

On 14th August 2012, the Miss World Charity Dinner was held. Beauty with a Purpose is something very important to the Miss World Organisation and each contestant.....and this was a chance for the contestants to raise more money for this international cause.

Each contestant carried with them from their country an auction gift. Something to symbolise their country and share some of their culture with the auction bidders. Each auction item was photographed, filmed and listed, ready to be presented to the high profile businesses invited to attend the auction dinner.

A staggering 26 Million RMB was raised and donated on the same night to local causes.

Sports Challenge

Tension was running high as the contestants competing for a place at the Miss World 2012 Sports Final (Thurs 9th August) warmed up ahead of the first sports eliminator on 7th August. A gruelling set of challenges awaited them, all overseen by our resident taskmaster, complete with whistle!

The ladies were divided into four groups as part of the Miss World team challenge. Chants of ‘Come on Group One’ and ‘Let’s go Group Four’ were heard. Group Two donned black war paint, and Group Three were seen in a tactical huddle in the lobby before heading to the arena!

The six highest-scoring contestants from each group will qualify, and the final will see them compete in group challenges, as well as individual ones.

After a few warm up laps, the contestants faced their first challenge. Each lady had to complete as many step-ups as possible within the allotted time, then sit ups, press ups, burpees (which everyone described as excruciating!) and finally, lunges. Independent adjudicators counted each successful manoeuvre and these will now be tallied up to find the contestants going through.
