Founder of Miss World, Eric Morley sadly passed away a few weeks before the 2000 final. Taking his place was his wife Julia, who had been heavily involved with Miss World for many years.
The contestants opened the Miss World 2000 Final with a spectacular opening number, wearing dresses deisgned by Hemant Trevedi. The dresses were specially made for the contestants in only one week. The gold was chosen to mark the 50th anniversary of the competition.
Although the Miss World 2000 competition was held in London, the contestants and Miss World Team travelled to the Maldives to film the beachwear segment.
At the end of the glittering final, Priyanka Chopra from India was crowned the 50th Miss World by Yukta Mookhey from India.
